I have a 2002 yamaha electric golf cart. Last year my speed control went bad and I had to have it replaced. Since then I have noticed that I need to charge my batteries more often. I was advised by someone to check the batteries, which I did with a digital meter. At full charge the read 8.0 to 8.2. When needing recharge they read about 7.8. I was told that this is low. If that is true is there any way to boost the batteries without replacing the batteries?

Those are pretty low readings. They should never drop below 8 volts. You should always keep the charger hooked up when not using the cart. With todays automatic chargers they won't let them overcharge. With them dropping down that far would have to guess a new set of batteries to get that power back.
